HEART partnership secures major HEFCE funding

The HEART Partnership has won a bid for a major new project through the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP).

The programme invited proposals to run collaborative outreach initiatives in areas where higher education participation is.

NCOP is part of the Higher Education Funding Council for England’s (HEFCE) work aimed at improving student access and success.  In partnership with schools, academies and colleges, HEART will use the £6.7 million funding over two years to support students in in Years 9 to 13 from target wards across West Yorkshire.

The overall objective of the project is to increase numbers of young people progressing into higher education, and activity will engage parent and carers as well as teachers and advisers.

Professor Margaret House, Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University and Chair of the HEART Board, said “The NCOP represents another exciting step in the journey for our partnership, complementing the existing work we undertake with young people in care, and around alternative higher education qualifications.”

Helen Sykes, Manager of the HEART Partnership, said: “The strengths of the partnership lie in our collaborative approach to working; through our package of outreach activity, this HEFCE-funded programme provides a fantastic opportunity to transform the futures of young people in the region.”
