Summer School 2016
Building upon the success of last year’s pilot, this year’s HEART Collaborative HE Experience Summer School took place in July. Generously hosted by Leeds Beckett University and supported by partner institutions, eight schools took part in the three-day residential, comprising a total of 75 Year 10 students from across the region.
Participants had the opportunity to visit seven of our partner campuses, and were treated to activities and taster sessions covering a broad range of subjects and issues relating to HE. They enjoyed sessions in Media Make-up at Bradford College, Dance, Childcare and Sports Science at Leeds City College, Fashion and Animation at Leeds College of Art, interactive experiments in wind energy at the University of Bradford, Music Technology at the University of Huddersfield, and much more! At Leeds Trinity University, they had the opportunity to witness the fanfare of graduation day, and even to take part in mock graduations. They presented their ideas to a panel of ‘Dragons’ in the Enterprise Challenge at Leeds Beckett University, put their questions to a panel of Student Ambassadors, and took part in team-building exercises. There was also the chance to have fun on a big night out at the Red Hot Buffet and Hollywood Bowl.
It is a credit to the partnership that we have been able to collaborate to offer students such a unique residential experience. Thanks to everyone involved!
