HEART is delighted to be supporting the newly established National Institute for Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) Adult Learners’ Festival. We have previously supported the Adult Learners’ Week and will do so again this year as we sponsor the HEART Raising Aspirations Award for outstanding adult learners studying at higher level. Information on last year’s award ceremony and the winner of the HEART award, Sarah Reynolds, can be located HERE. We hope to have the same difficulty this year as last when we struggled to determine the winner from such excellent nominations.
We are also thrilled that NIACE have broadened out the celebration of adult learning to incorporate an Adult Learners’ Festival. We had been discussing the concept of an Adult Learners’ festival with Involve Yorkshire & Humber, the Open College Network Yorkshire & Humber and University of Leeds Lifelong Learning Centre before NIACE announced the national festival. We like to think that Yorkshire and Humber were ahead of the game!
The benefits on individual health and well being and to wider society and the economy of studying and particularly at higher level are substantial. We are therefore highly supportive of all initiatives that aim to raise the awareness of learning opportunities and the benefits that these bring.
Working with Involve Yorkshire & Humber and the Workers Educational Association (WEA) who are contracted by NIACE to manage the promotion of the Festival in Yorkshire and Humber it has been agreed that the Adult Learners’ Festival will commence on Thursday 1 May and finish at the end of Adult Learners’ Week on Friday 20th June. Our partners will be offering a range of activities and events during this period and these will be posted onto the NIACE database in the near future so keep checking in for ‘What’s On’.
We will be tweeting and using hashtags #ALF14 and #ALW14 so do please follow us on @heartwestyorks to keep up to date on news and events. If you have ideas for events that you believe we or our partners may be able to collaborate on do please get in touch, email@example.com, 0113 343 2312.
