HEART represent the Yorkshire & Humber Region on the National Network for the Education of Care Leavers (NNECL) Strategic Group and therefore supported the development and delivery of the first annual event.
The First Annual Event of NNECL took place on Wednesday 11th December kindly hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University. With over 100 participants from a range of different organisations all focused on supporting Care leavers progression in education, the day formally launched the Network and our recently developed Guide for Staff working in FE and HE who support care leavers.
Key note speakers, Les Ebdon, Director of the Office for Fair Access (OFFA), the Bolton Virtual College, the University of Manchester, Article 26, and the NUS, gave an insight into important areas of practice and the high level support for this work. Discussion in workshop groups then gave participants the chance to discuss key challenges and issues still to be overcome and prioritise the areas for solutions at the day and to be taken forward by the National Strategic Group in 2014. We would like to say thank you very much for all those who attended and supported the day and we look forward to continuing discussion and engagement in 2014!
